The future of filmmaking might have just been significantly disrupted with Google’s newly released Veo 3.

On Tuesday, May 20, Google unveiled Veo 3, an AI tool capable of generating hyper-realistic videos, now enhanced with human-like audio.

“Veo 3 excels from text and image prompting to real-world physics and accurate lip syncing,” said Eli Collins, Vice President of Product at DeepMind, in a blog post on Tuesday.

Although the new feature is currently available only to U.S. users on the $249.99-per-month Ultra subscription plan, as well as through Google’s Vertex AI enterprise platform, the tool could be a game changer for the filmmaking industry.

The cost of filmmaking is often high—ranging from actor wages to logistics, camera equipment, and lighting. In Nigeria, where inflation has driven the cost of movie production even higher and filmmakers struggle to recoup their investments, this new technology offers a potentially viable alternative once it becomes globally accessible.

Veo 3 is not the only AI tool aiming to revolutionize video production. OpenAI’s Sora, released last December, also helps users create videos. However, Veo 3’s ability to synchronize voice with lip movements gives it a significant edge—making it a more appealing option for filmmakers seeking realism.
